about

Nightlife

This song uses the DE200 being triggered to make a sort of rhythmic grunting accompaniment to the instrumental sections between verses. It’s me saying something but I can’t remember what. I probably just grunted in a deep voice.

The whooshy filtering synth noises are all from the Roland JX3P. I loved that synth and I use a virtual one still to this day. I bought mine with the loan that I had to take out to start my business. Many happy hours making filter sweeps and using the massive 128 step four track onboard sequencer!

The middle keyboard in this picture is my trusty old Yamaha SK10 synthesiser that was in my rig for several years. It made string and organ sounds neither of which were particularly convincing. It was seven note polyphonic though, which was a lot in those days and great for someone obsessed with wierd chords on a budget!
