This Is Where We Came In

Originally written to be performed in two parts on two successive Saturday mornings during the summer season of 1990, the play returned as a full-length family show in 1991. These recordings are from the revival at the SJT in 2001. For the first two incarnations, I performed the music live as an automaton, ‘Kevin on Keyboards’. The original concept of Kevin, was a slightly disturbing clown designed by Juliet Nichols. All the music and sound effects were performed live from a series of samplers that were wheeled on with me at the beginning of each performance. For the second production, I was asked to paint myself silver and wear a silver bathing cap for a more robotic performance. For the final SJT revival in 2001, I sat in rehearsals and worked out precise timings for a long series of complicated cues, which were then recorded. For this production Kevin on Keyboards was an ornate animatronic tree stump!

World Premiere: 4 / 11 August 1990
Venue: Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round, Scarborough
