Wild Honey by Michael Frayn
Adapted from a play with no name by Anton Chekov.
Directed by Alan Ayckbourn

This was the first full SJT production in the Round Auditorium at the new SJT in its new home at the converted former Odeon Cinema in Scarborough. The first production at the new theatre was a joint production with The Really Useful Group of Lloyd Webber and Ayckbourn’s ‘By Jeeves’ musical. Wild Honey had a large cast and an imaginative set created by Jan Bee Brown, which included a train arriving onstage at speed during one of the more dramatic moments. It was the first large score created using what became a composing staple for me for much of that period. The Roland XP50, various samplers by Akai and Roland and several orchestral sound cards. I enjoyed writing with this machine and unlike many other composers, I didn’t become fully computerised until late in 1997.

This score is from the production directed by Alan Ayckbourn at The Stephen Joseph Theatre in 1996.
